Australia job vacancies rise; migration lifts population

Job vacancies in Australia rebounded in the three months to August as a pick up in the private sector outweighed the lowest reading for public vacancies in eight years, government data showed on Thursday.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) reported total job vacancies rose 4.2 per cent to 179,300 in seasonally adjusted terms in the three months to end August, more than recouping a fall the previous quarter.

Still, vacancies were down 4.4 per cent on the same period last year.
