Brent futures top US$113 a barrel ahead of ECB

Brent crude futures climbed above US$113 per barrel on Thursday, with investors hoping the European Central Bank will announce details of how it plans to tackle the euro zone’s debt crisis at a meeting later in the day.

Brent crude futures had climbed 40 cents to US$113.49 per barrel by 0456 GMT, off an earlier session high of US$113.96. US crude gained 50 US cents to US$95.86.

“Investors are pricing in (hopes for) the ECB meeting tonight,” said Natalie Rampono, a commodity strategist at ANZ.
