The Haier Group is looking at a takeover of New Zealand's Fisher and Paykel Appliances in a deal that could value the appliance maker at US$600 million.
The move would strengthen Haier's technology and reduce its reliance on a slowing Chinese economy, while news of the approach sent shares in New Zealand's largest appliance maker soaring, at one point as much as 40 per cent to a 3½-year high.
