Market Wrap: Hong Kong stocks gain on China strength





Hong Kong stocks gained, lifted by mainland China banking shares, after the state-run investment arm vowed to lift its stakes in major lenders to shore up investor confidence.


The benchmark Hang Seng Index lost 79.45 points, or 0.38 per cent, to finish at 20,999.05. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index closed up 190.09 points, or 1.89 per cent, at 10,231.20.


The Shanghai Composite Index lost 17.07 points, or 0.81 per cent, to finish at 2102.87.
