Tokyo stocks open 0.39 per cent higher

Tokyo stocks opened 0.39 per cent higher on Tuesday, following a surge on Wall Street which was lifted by better-than-expected manufacturing data. The Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 34.17 points at 8,830.68 in the first minutes of trading.
