Australian consumers cheer up in November

A measure of Australian consumer confidence rose for a third month in November to its highest in over a year with households feeling better off and more confident about the economic outlook following recent cuts in interest rates.

The poll of 1,200 people by the Melbourne Institute and Westpac Bank showed its index of consumer sentiment rose 5.2 per cent in November to 104.3, the highest since April 2011. The result followed increases of 1.0 per cent and 1.6 per cent in the previous two months.

On November last year, the index was up 0.9 per cent.
