Companies giving consumers the personal touch on social media





It was while shopping recently at a farmer's market in North Carolina that Andrea Chiz Plyler realised she was being followed by an enormous mushroom.


The mushroom was Mel, the mascot from the Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers chain, but Plyler did not recognise him as such. When she turned around to look at Mel, he stood motionless, and it unsettled her.


"I am deathly terrified of people in mascot-type uniforms, and he was really creepy because he has almost like this blank stare, like he was staring right through you," Plyler said.
