Chinese investors buy 80pc of AIG plane unit for US$4.2b A

A Chinese group agreed to buy an 80.1 per cent stake in the plane-leasing unit of American International Group for US$4.23 billion, the largest acquisition by that nation’s investors in the US.

The investors in International Lease Finance Corp. include New China Trust Co., China Aviation Industrial Fund and P3 Investments, AIG said. The buyers have an option to take an additional 9.9 per cent stake. The deal values ILFC at US$5.3 billion, and eclipses China Investment Corp’s US$3 billion purchase of a stake in Blackstone Group in 2007.
