Hong Kong shares close near 19½-month high, China slides
Hong Kong shares closed near a 19½-month high for a third session on Tuesday, helped by strength in the financial sector, while onshore China markets retreated from Monday’s seven-month high as manufacturing dragged.
Despite gains in the index, lower volumes in Hong Kong point to caution as benchmark indices run into chart resistance after a fast start to the year, and amid a growing number of profit warnings ahead of the corporate earnings season.
