Monte Paschi’s former finance chief returns to jail

An Italian judge has ordered the former head of Monte dei Paschi’s finance department to return to jail a day after releasing him for a procedural error as part of an inquiry into alleged fraud and bribery at Italy’s third-largest bank.

Judicial sources with direct knowledge of the case said Baldassarri, who had been released on Saturday night, would be detained in Milan.

Gianluca Baldassarri was the first person to be arrested in a widening scandal that has rocked the word’s oldest bank.
