Bird flu drags down poultry sector, drug-makers surge
Chinese poultry-meat producers slumped in the mainland stock market as the spreading H7N9 bird flu in eastern China triggered speculation Beijing could order a mass cull in a bid to prevent infection, while vaccine stocks gained.
Four people in Jiangsu province are fighting for their lives after it was confirmed they were infected with H7N9 bird flu. According to Chinese social networking site Sina Weibo, one of the patient is a 45-year-old Jiangsu woman, who worked as a poultry butcher at a local market.
