Wealthy mainlanders drive SJM 12pc net rise

Macau casino operator SJM Holdings, controlled by the family of gambling tycoon Stanley Ho, posted a 12 per cent year-on-year increase in first-quarter net profit, buoyed by strong interest from cash-rich Chinese gamblers.

SJM on Monday reported net profit of HK$1.9 billion for the first three months of this year, compared with HK$1.7 billion a year earlier.

Valued at around US$14 million, SJM has the largest market share among the six licensed operators, with 27 per cent.
