China, Hong Kong shares extend gains in afternoon trade
China shares extended gains in afternoon trade on Tuesday, lifting Hong Kong markets, as traders said anaemic China trade data earlier in the day spurred talk that the Chinese central bank may ease policy to boost growth.
The CSI300 of the leading Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listings was up 2.5 percent, while the Shanghai Composite Index was up 1.9 percent to 2,002.3 points.
The Hang Seng Index was up 0.7 per cent, while the China Enterprises Index of the top Chinese listings in Hong Kong climbed 1.3 per cent.
