US manufacturing shows modest rebound, jobs fall

The picture for the US factory sector was mixed. The Institute for Supply Management's closely watched index bounced back last month to 50.9 after an unexpected contraction in the sector in May, when it read 49. But firms took on the fewest new workers since September 2009.
