Manulife lifts core profit 16pc in quarter

Hong Kong-listed Manulife Financial, Canada's largest insurer with operations globally, reported its core earnings grew 16 per cent year on year in the first quarter as a result of higher fee income, lower hedging costs and currency gains from a strengthening US dollar.
