Canada aware of two cyber attacks, second one on energy firm
Canada said on Friday it was aware of an attempt by hackers to target a domestic energy company, the second time in 24 hours Ottawa had acknowledged a cyber security attack against a Canadian firm.
In both cases the Canadian government declined to comment on reports which suggested a Chinese connection.
The news comes at an awkward time for Canada’s Conservative government, which is deciding whether to approve a landmark US$15.1 billion bid by China’s CNOOC Ltd to take over Canadian oil producer Nexen Inc.

"We want to test the market, see the first steps towards success in China, then roll out to the rest of the world," chief executive Yang Yuanqing said. "We want to win in the smartphone area and even the TV area."
The final step before a rescue is likely to come tomorrow, analysts say, when Madrid unveils an independent audit of its limping banks to determine how much capital they need.
Temasek is selling 400 million shares in Singapore Telecommunications, representing a 2.5 per cent stake, at S$3.20 each, according to the people.
